Interstar Joins International VoIP Council

The Industry's Only IP Fax Platform Provider to Work with VoIP Council to Highlight Reliability and Cost-Saving Features

Montreal, QC, February 11, 2004

Interstar Technologies Inc., the pre-eminent developer of enterprise fax solutions for converged IP networks, today announced that it has joined the International VoIP Council to support and promote market acceptance and penetration of this technology. The International VoIP Council is an organization focused on promoting the benefits of the VoIP industry to the public and industry at large. It is comprised of companies representing all segments of the VoIP industry, including service providers, manufacturers, integrators, equipment manufacturers, software developers, and carriers.

"Interstar believes that the demonstrable benefits to end-users of VoIP technologies and products will ensure this technology's sustainable success in the marketplace," said Martin Demers, president and CEO of Interstar. "VoIP can significantly reduce the costs of communicating, simplify communications infrastructure, and can facilitate the addition of more advanced applications within the enterprise. We believe that VoIP is a significant force in the future of communications, and the VoIP Council is an important forum for conveying its benefits and advances to the industry. As the only IP fax platform provider member, we are pleased to be part of this industry-wide effort and intend to be active members of the council."

With improvements in VoIP technology and the growth of IP telephony solutions, businesses are starting to consider IP telephony as part of their corporate communications package, according to research firm In-Stat/MDR. Based on a survey conducted by the firm, it is estimated that at the end of 2002, roughly 2% of all US firms were using some sort of IP telephony.

This number will grow to over 2.2 million US firms by 2007, or 19%. In-Stat/MDR forecasts that the international wholesale VoIP market will grow from just over 19 billion minutes in 2002 to over 277 billion minutes by 2007.
