New enhancements in Interstar’s XMediusFAX T.38 fax server (FoIP) software improves desktop email faxing and fax broadcasting for users within a Cisco VoIP and unified messaging deployment
Montreal, Canada, June 13, 2005
Interstar Technologies (xmediusfax.sagemcom.com), a leading developer of IP telephony solutions, will be unveiling new enhancements to its Cisco Compatible XMediusFAX™ fax server (FoIP) software at the annual Cisco Networkers 2005 user training and networking event in Las Vegas, June 20-23, 2005, booth # 916.
The Networkers 2005 venue is an opportunity for Cisco Systems engineers, partners and users to collaborate, learn and witness first-hand new Cisco technologies, innovations and Cisco partner solutions designed to speed up deployment of a secure and robust Cisco network.
As a Cisco Technology Developer Partner, Interstar Technologies will be showcasing its pioneer software-based, XMediusFAX™ T.38 Fax over IP (FoIP) server application. XMediusFAX is certified to interoperate with the major Cisco VoIP gateways. It enables IP fax functionality in a VoIP network equipped with Microsoft Exchange and Lotus Notes email messaging platforms.
Salient XMediusFAX Enterprise and Express, version 4.2, enhancements include support for:
- Maximum resolution in outbound faxing in 300x300 dpi and 400x400 dpi ultra-fine resolutions for best quality output from the fax recipient’s end.
- Error Correction Mode (ECM): enables a more reliable, error-free fax page transmission.
- New Lotus Notes fax forms for users deploying Lotus Notes & Domino 6.0 and 6.5, which eliminates the need for installing an add-in on the Domino server.
“The new XMediusFAX 4.2 fax server enhancements will better serve our fax users who rely on error-free, superior fax output and precision in their documents. The new Lotus Notes fax forms will better serve our users in that particular niche,” said Martin Demers, President and CEO of Interstar Technologies Inc. “Interstar is committed to its Cisco Technology Developer Partner role to continuously produce better Cisco Compatible software features and functionality that embellish the Cisco networking experience.”
About XMediusFAX™, fax servers and VoIP networks
About a decade ago, VoIP was introduced as a technology that would enable businesses to reap significant cost savings, while offering more features and capabilities, such as improved mobility. While VoIP has already accomplished that to a large degree, faxing in today’s VoIP-enabled organizations still remains a legacy technology requiring POTS phone lines and/or specialized equipment. Interstar’s XMediusFAX server is the first to accomplish the boardless approach in fax-enabling VoIP networks, while still catering to enterprises and service providers with legacy fax board deployments.
XMediusFAX is a T.38 Fax Over IP (FoIP) server application that integrates seamlessly with leading IP telephony technologies from companies such as Cisco, 3Com/AudioCodes, and Alcatel. It maximizes ROI, streamlines workflow, and solves analog fax problems by eliminating POTS lines, specialized hardware, paper, toner and maintenance costs.
Currently, IP fax server solutions on the market require both fax boards and VoIP gateways to operate, and are therefore more expensive and complicated to support and upgrade. The XMediusFAX server differentiates itself from the competition by solely requiring either VoIP gateways or fax boards, not both. Its all-in-one, software-only approach only requires a change to the software license scheme for upgrading purposes.
The XMediusFAX server is an essential component of unified messaging. Faxes can now share a common inbox, along with email, voice and data, enabling convenient desktop email faxing and fax broadcasting.
Users can send and receive faxes directly from:
- Microsoft Outlook,
- Lotus Notes
- or SMTP email client, such as Microsoft Outlook Express, Eudora and Mozilla Thunderbird,
- or XMediusFAX web client,
- or any T.37-compliant multifunction device (MFD), such as HP, Xerox, Lexmark, and SAGEM.
XMediusFAX, runs on Windows 2000 and 2003, and is available in Enterprise, Express and Service Provider (EE, X and SP) editions. Various email messaging platforms supported include Microsoft Exchange 2000 and 2003, Lotus Notes, SAP and Cisco Unity. Other key features include support for H.323 and SIP, SMTP/POP3, Least Cost Routing (LCR), G4 TIF file format, redundancy for mission critical applications, Active Directory synchronization, MMC Snap-in, HTML email notification, optional API modules, and a client for advanced fax functionalities.
